Workout With Your Training Buddies Digitally
We’ve all had to adapt our lives since the beginning of 2020 and whilst running can be a saviour for many people, having to run to a different routine can be tricky.
Rachel Diver is an Asics UK Frontrunner and she has been telling us how she has coped with the 2020 limitations.
Normally heading to Parkrun on a Saturday morning was one of the highlights of my week – especially the post-run brunch & coffee! It was a guaranteed catch up with friends with a 5k run thrown in for good measure.

People are quite rightly staying at home, but at least we have modern technology so we don’t have to be shut off from the world. There are lots of options to make the most of the social side of exercising. Digital fitness is becoming more and more popular, and it can be accessed from anywhere at any time, as long as you have a decent wi-fi connection.
Living alone and in a rural area, I feel like I’ve been in training for social distancing all my life. So here are my top tips for working out with friends… digitally.
Running apps
Stay connected using a running app like Runkeeper or Strava, which allow you and your friends to run solo, but still admire each other’s runs, comment on their exercise and give kudos to their efforts. Stay connected to each other through a running app, and try out each other’s routes.
Social media
If you’re an early bird it can be a feel a little isolating, as if you’re the only one out there at the crack of dawn, but check out #6amclub on Instagram and you’ll soon realise you’re not the only crazy one out there. Check your friends’ workout activities and motivate each other. Look out for the tagafriend challenges and stay connected.
Online streaming
Check out free workouts on YouTube or online streaming. There are classes for everything from Joe Wicks PE Classes to no-equipment needed yoga and pilates classes. Stream through your tv and have your friends join you on Facetime. A bit of small talk and the class will fly.
Staying connected and being active with others are great ways to improve your mental wellbeing
