New Groundhogs Out Of Hibernation
These popular running socks were ready for a bit of reinvention; we wanted to change the colours and integrate the latest technologies to really bring Groundhog up to date for today’s runners.
With more and more people taking up running, whether for weight loss, general fitness or to actively support good mental health, Groundhog has been redesigned to provide a highly technical running sock at an affordable price.
The success of the whole project depended on getting the manufacturer right and we needed to find one who would respect our main aims and aspirations:
- Product quality
- The latest technologies
- Sustainability
- British manufacturing
We not only had to consider all the different styles of sock that runners like to wear, but also the different terrains they would be used on.
Roadhog: A core sock, perfect for road runners and speed hunters. Roadhog was designed with the following criteria:
- Lightweight
- Breathable
- Protect the Achilles
- Keep feet blister-free
- Cushioning and support in all the right places
Wildhog: When you take your running off-road a different kind of sock is needed. Wildhog was designed with the most challenging terrain in mind:
- Wool at the heel and toe for extra insulation
- A higher ribbed cuff to keep debris out of the socks
- A darker colour to withstand all that the moors has to offer
Wildhog will look after your feet on your offroad adventures.
Hoglets: This twin pack of minimal socks is colourful, has all the comfort features of the Roadhog and with a lightweight anklet style that would be perfect for road running or for the gym.
1992 Hog: In tribute to our heritage, 1992 being the year Up & Running was born, the 1992 Hog was designed by our founder Gillian Macfarlane. It is a crew length sock, available in black and white and features the original Up & Running logo.
Our groundhog socks have been designed without a trditional gender/colour bias so choose from your favourites or match to your running shoes.
Packaging
With the manufacturing, sock design and the colours sorted, it was on to the packaging. Again with key goals in mind:
100% recyclable. The packaging needed to resemble the new style of the range while also doing no harm to the environment. All our Groundhog packaging is 100% recyclable and we will continue to develop and improve our packaging with each new range.
With a desire to support a small start-up local business, our packaging design was created by a local artist, @isabellaws_art
You can wear your Groundhog socks with pride, out on the moors, across the finish line, in the gym or while achieving your personal best.
Watch out for new colourways and models coming out of hibernation
