Job Description:

As Store Manager, you are responsible for both the daily operations of the store, and the store’s long-term success. You will promote the highest standards of customer service and product knowledge when serving your local running and fitness community. In addition, you will work with company processes and procedures to maintain a productive stock holding, staffing and promotions calendar.

Your typical day as a Store Manager will include: 

  • Creating a welcoming environment for customers, visitors and your team
  • Demonstrating and modelling excellent customer service
  • Dealing with customer complaints and ensuring that your team develop the skills to handles customer queries
  • Accurately report the End of Day & Branch Finance Summary
  • Accurately bank cash takings each week.
  • Using video gait analysis to help advise and recommend footwear to customers, training team members in the use of gait analysis and ensuring quality of analysis delivered
  • Operating the EPOS system to process transactions and manage stock levels
  • Maintaining logical and orderly stock rooms and ensuring all team members maintain orderly stock rooms • Supervising & accurately reporting on the receive & transfer of stock from supplier, warehouse & other stores
  • Answering Head Office (HO) emails and requests, and those of other stores & the warehouse, via store email and managers emails
  • Ensuring that customer special orders are dealt with as soon as possible relevant all team members are trained to fulfil customer orders

Your responsibilities as a Store Manager are:

  • Being the main keyholder for the store, and the main point of contact if the alarm is triggered out of hours
  • Ensuring the store, stockroom and staff room are clean and compliant to Health and Safety (H&S) policy and ensure that all team members are following these policies and procedures
  • Minimising the store’s costs through sensible use of petty cash and monitoring the use of utilities
  • Ensuring all up-keep of the shop and outdoor areas
  • Protecting the store against theft through vigilance and common-sense procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with all H&S matters and acting as the point of contact for all H&S matters
  • Supervising and monitoring the use of the store computer
  • Training and supervising team members in the operation of the EPOS system to process transactions and manage stock levels
  • Acting as the point of contact between HO and the store

As a Store Manager, you are responsible for the maintenance of stock, this includes:

  • Liaising with HO on matters of stock that is not selling and/or out of season
  • Monitoring stock levels to prevent stock loss and preventing new procedures where necessary with the support of HO
  • Ensuring that no out of date nutrition is on display and rotate product to maximise turnover
  • Monitoring and controlling the distribution of seeded products and the processing of staff purchases
  • Ensuring that faulty stock is dealt with correctly and efficiently by all team members
  • Ensuring that stock is ordered based on store needs, and, with regard to weekly turnover and training Assistant Managers to order stock in your absence
  • Help to plan forward order ranges at the annual buyers meeting and continuously throughout the year through constructive feedback

Store Managers will build and develop not only their own knowledge but your team’s knowledge, this will include:

  • Developing and maintaining a full working knowledge of all aspects of the EPOS system and the knowledge of your team members
  • Liaising with brand tech reps with regards to training
  • Developing, modelling and teaching excellent working knowledge of the gait analysis
  • Maintaining your up-to-date knowledge of technical specifications of product, shoe fitting, and running & fitness theory of and that of your team

As a Store Manager you will be required to lead the marketing of the store, this will include:

  • Liaising with brand tech reps and the marketing department with regards to in-store events and point of sale materials
  • Manage, or delegating the management, of the weekly Social Run Group.
  • Ensuring the store is merchandised effectively, including window displays.
  • Promoting the store using in-store and outreach promotions and identifying new opportunities
  • Providing information and ideas, to report on changes in the local or wider running industry, and, to inform HO of any changes to the local retail scene
  • Leading and organising HO promotions & national campaigns, including seasonal sales & product launches
  • Leading and organising the distribution of regular mail outs to customers, club members and gym users etc. at regular intervals with the support of HO
  • Organising and leading the store sales, working to ensure that out of season stock is moved

As a Store Manager, you will be responsible in leading and managing your team which will include:

  • Ensure all new starter and leavers procedures are followed, along with statutory requirements
  • Identify open positions in store and leading recruitment of new team members, with the guidance of HO when needed
  • Organising and overseeing the store rota, and to staff the store adequately based on the turnover
  • Processing timesheets and keep a record of staff holiday, time in lieu and sickness level
  • Supervising & supporting staff with EPOS, gait analysis, stock movement, merchandising & product training
  • Conducting performance appraisal and probationary review meetings when instructed to so by HO
  • f necessary, to undertake the first stage of any disciplinary procedures against their staff with the guidance of HO
  • Leading the delivery of training on products, new shop procedures and H&S advice with the help of HO resources and suppliers
