What's it like working at Up & Running - Staff Stories
We asked our Birmingham staff members Jamie and Hugo to give us some insight and their thoughts on what it was like working at Up & Running. Read on to find out what they had to say about working at the UK's largest independent running retailer.
Hi, I’m Jamie and I have been working at Up & Running Birmingham since 2019.
The best thing about working at Up & Running is sharing my love of running with all of the customers who visit the store. Interacting with the different type of runners we get makes every day so different and unique.
I especially enjoy encouraging new runners and helping them find the perfect running shoe as well as sharing my experience of events and races with the Birmingham running community.
It’s also been great fun to lead our free Monday night 5K SRG social runs around Birmingham City Centre. If you fancy a fun, free and friendly jog around the streets and canals of Birmingham then come on down!
Hello! My name’s Hugo and I’ve been with Up & Running for just over 3 years.
My favorite thing about working for Up & Running is how involved the stores are in the local running community. Having worked in both Sheffield and Birmingham stores it's great that we can help support local races. Also, having our own weekly social run group is great for helping new runners get going. As most of our staff are involved in local running clubs, there really is a sense of community in the stores, we regularly see familiar faces and customers at races and Parkruns!
It’s great to chat to such a wide variety of runners in store, from new couch to 5K runners looking for their first pair of shoes to those looking for nutritional advice to fuel up for their next marathon. It can be challenging finding the right piece of kit for a such a wide array of customers, but it makes the job really varied.
If you like the sound of working at Up & Running, and want to join in the wider store teams across the UK then check out our current vacancies here. If you have a passion for running, fitness or just helping people then we'd love to have you!
